Plan your visit

We welcome schools, colleges or universities to visit the gallery for an inspiring learning experience. Students can engage with world-class art, explore new ideas, develop skills and techniques and enhance their cultural capital.

Teacher-led visits

Bring your school, college or university to The Hepworth Wakefield and lead your group around our exhibitions and garden.

Our collection displays and temporary exhibitions offer opportunities for learning and discovery and we encourage everyone to explore, draw, look, think, discuss and create during their visit.

“There are lots of interesting pieces of artwork that look like nothing I’ve seen before. I enjoyed spending time looking and drawing them.” Dixons Unity Academy student

Artist-led workshops

We offer an exciting range of artist-led workshops suitable from Early Years through to Key Stage 5.

Experience working with professional artists and explore new ways of looking, thinking and making in the galleries and our learning studios.

“Our pupils loved the workshop! They were engaged, they were thinking, they were creating” Year 4 teacher, Sandal Magna Community Academy

Our skills-based workshops inspire students to explore the artworks in the gallery and creatively respond to the ideas, themes and processes within the exhibitions.

During the workshops artists support students to be creative, develop their ideas and try new things.

Choose from a range of workshops that explore different materials and processes, including printmaking, clay, sketchbooks, drawing, sculpture, mixed media and felt making.

Curriculum links:

Our workshops support a broad and balanced curriculum and enhance student’s cultural capital. They link directly with the national curriculum and develop visual literacy and critical thinking through discussion.

“The workshop has also inspired our art staff to consider how we can incorporate different activities in our KS3 curriculum and beyond.” Head of Art, The Ruth Gorse Academy
