The Hepworth Wakefield will take part in UK-wide exhibition of work by d/Deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent artists

On 2 July 2022, to mark the 102nd anniversary of the 1st Dada International Exhibition in Berlin, 31 d/Deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent artists will stage Dada-inspired interventions in 30 museums and galleries across the UK.
This one-day exhibition, We are Invisible, We are Visible, will see 31 artists disrupt arts organisations across the country with non-sensical and surreal work inspired by the Dada movement.
At The Hepworth Wakefield, artists Mianam Bashir and Emma Powell will present a series of subtle interventions, entitled THIS IS NOT A PIPE. The title is taken from a 1929 painting by Surrealist René Magritte called The Treachery of Images. The painting depicts a large image of a pipe, with the words; “Ceci n’est pas une pipe” (This is not a pipe) painted underneath. Like the painting, Bashir and Powell’s interventions will explore how meaning can be created through the interplay between artworks and written labels.
We are Invisible We are Visible is presented by DASH, the disabled-led visual arts organisation, and funded by the 2021 Ampersand Prize, which is awarded every two years to realise a dream project. #WAIWAV
